She Said

Artist: Matias Alonso Revelli

by Lauren Bender

quickly, the rules
of shacking up

in a she shed.
turn away from

your real house
like others

turn away from
satan, sparkling

with distaste.
display your set

of chairs and their
soft porch cushions.

embrace those
who register words

rather than
how outrageous

the words are.
those who don’t see

bold as the backbone
of greatness. then

take your thoughts
and hobbies inside

where there are no
whistles or dirty

socks. swallow your pill
in case you

crawl back
in the evening

to nuzzle
the dew of an armpit.
